This 104-acre property was acquired in Phase IV and
is now part of the Indiana DNR Kankakee State Fish & Wildlife Area in
Laporte County. Restoration of this site was completed in 2010 with the
help of the Natural Resource Conservation Service, U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service, and Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife. Two
shallow water areas totaling 8-acres were constructed on the site and
the remaining area was planted to native prairie and sedge meadow. This
site is used heavily by migrating waterfowl on their way north in the
early spring. |
